This year Simon and Josie celebrated the 4th of July by visiting Penns Cave with Mutti, PapPap and Mama. The cave tour served as a nice, cool respite on a hot summer day. We enjoyed observing the rock formations, trying to see different images in the stalactites and stalagmites (a crocodile, the Buddha, the Statue of Liberty, etc.) It was fun to learn that a pastor discovered the cave in the late 1700s while walking in the woods writing his sermon, just like our daddy does most weeks. Maybe one day Benjamin will make an amazing environmental discovery while he explores the woods too! At the end of our time the kids panned for gemstones and arrowheads. Simon has already turned a few of his finds into mini-spears for survival purposes only, of course.
